Shin-Ōsaka Station

Shin-Ōsaka Station (新大阪駅, Shin-Ōsaka Eki^?, literally New Osaka Station) is a train station in Yodogawa-ku, Osaka, Japan. It is the western terminus of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, and the eastern terminus of the Sanyō Shinkansen. The lines are physically joined, and many trains offer through service.

Shin-Ōsaka is about 3 km from the older Ōsaka Station. The new station was built in 1964 to avoid the engineering difficulties of running Shinkansen lines into the center of the city. The JR Kyoto Line and subway Midōsuji Line provide convenient connections to other stations around the city center.

Layout

JR

• There are four island platforms with eight tracks on the first floor for JR West Lines. There are a side platform and three island platforms with seven tracks on the fourth floor for the Shinkansen operated by JR Central, over the platforms and tracks for the JR West Lines in the east. There is space on the east side of Platform 18 reserved for the use of the Osaka Higashi Line upon its extension to this station by Fiscal 2018; this platform is currently under construction. The north side of the station is in the early stages of construction for an additional Shinkansen platform, along with a new station building housing a Hankyu department store. (This northern area was originally reserved for a connection from Awaji Station and Jūsō Station by Hankyu Railway, but these plans were later canceled and the space unused.)

• The names of the lines are common name for information by JR West. This station is an intermediate station on the "JR Kyōto Line", however, the Tōkaidō Line only for Kyoto is informed as the "JR Kyōto Line" and the line for Osaka and Amagasaki as the "JR Kōbe Line" and the "JR Takarazuka Line".
